"Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven" by W.B. Yeats is one of literature's most tender declarations of love and vulnerability, and this print brings its dreamlike imagery to life with soft, pastel-toned clouds drifting across the page. Often shared today under its later title, "He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven" this short but powerful poem has become a favourite Yeats quote print for anyone who loves poetry that speaks quietly rather than loudly.
The poem's closing line, "tread softly because you tread on my dreams," has become one of the most quoted lines in romantic poetry, capturing the ache of offering someone your whole heart with nothing but hope to protect it. Surrounded by gentle, illustrated clouds in dusky blues and lilacs, the design gives the poem a soft, ethereal setting that suits anyone drawn to whimsical poetry wall art rather than a starker, more traditional literary print. It's an especially fitting choice for a Yeats wedding reading print, since the poem is often read aloud at ceremonies for its raw, unguarded honesty.
This print is a meaningful gift for poetry lovers, hopeless romantics, or literature graduates who studied Yeats, and it works beautifully as a wedding gift, anniversary gift, or thoughtful engagement present. It suits a bedroom, reading nook, or soft, pastel-toned living space, bringing warmth and sentiment without ever feeling heavy-handed.
"Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."
